Delivery structure

Departments

The Ministry is headed by the Principal Secretary (PS) and has five technical departments: Youth, Sports, Arts, Museums and Monuments, and National Records and Archives. These departments are supported by Administration and Management, and the Ministry also oversees NYCOM, MNCS, and COSOMA.

Youth development

Department of Youth

Head: Judith Msusa

The Department of Youth was established in 1983 and exists to develop the full potential of Malawi's youth and actively promote their participation in personal, community, and national development. It has offices in all local councils through the District Youth Offices and coordinates the youth development subsector nationwide.

Sports excellence

Department of Sports

Head: Justice Msopera

The Department of Sports was established in 1972 to promote Malawian national identity and unity in diversity through sports and recreation. Its mandate is to promote, develop, and regulate sports through infrastructure development and mass participation.

Creative industries

Department of Arts

Head: Mpondaminga

The Department of Arts preserves, develops, promotes, and regulates Malawi's creative industries through promotional events, research, enforcement of legal instruments, and stakeholder collaboration.

Heritage preservation

Department of Monuments and Museums

Head: Dr. L. Mazibuko

Created in 2017 after the merger of Antiquities and Museums of Malawi, the department collects, preserves, and studies cultural and natural heritage for national identity, posterity, and socio-economic development.

Public records

National Records and Archives Services

Head: Dr. L. Lihoma

Established in 1947, the department collects, organises, preserves, and makes the country's documentary heritage accessible for reference, research, and posterity through records management and public archives.

Corporate support

Administration and Management Department

Head: Fannie Msimuko

The Administration and Management Department coordinates corporate support services, office operations, registry and records management, logistics, human resource administration, and internal service delivery standards.
