Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Alfred Gangata has challenged District Youth Officers (DYOs) in the country to respond to the evolving needs of young people in order to be effective in the sector.
Gangata was speaking on Monday in Lilongwe during an opening ceremony of a five- day DYOs capacity building workshop that there is need for change in the way young people programs are managed.
"You are the Ministry's frontline representatives in the districts and the primary link between national policy and the young people we seek to serve," said Gangata
The Minister said while policies, strategies and programs are developed at the national level, their success depends on implementation in the communities.
UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Chika Charles Aniekwe pointed out that there is need to work together with parteners to make a difference in the lives of young people.
"Through different interventions and initiatives we can make a measurable impact and DYOs are an important stakeholder, "Aniekwe said
Some of the topics that will be presented during the training are: synthesis of key issues, challenges and opportunities in youth development programming, bankable proposal writing, Resource Mobilization and partnership building, results based programming design and implementation.
The workshop has been supported by the Ministry, National Youth Council of Malawi, European Union, UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF and Standard bank among others.
