Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Alfred Gangata has said government recognizes the important role of arts and culture in national development.
Gangata was speaking on Wednesday in Blantyre during the opening of southern region consultation meeting for the development of National Arts and Heritage Council (NAHEC) strategic plan.
"The creative and heritage industries are very important as they are a source of identity, employment and economic opportunity for Malawi," said Gangata.
He noted that promotion of culture is included in Malawi 2063 agenda and the strategic plan alligns well with the high level vision.
The meeting was attended by senior Ministry Officials that included NAHEC taskforce members, arts and heritage associations representatives.
